      Sentience

How long was I in darkness
before all this light?
Where now there is color
in endless hue there was
a blindness like basalt.
Where once nothing fluttered
or leafed a sky is full and
the rich perfume of turned
earth will forever haunt
of you.

I see too much now to comprehend
and found on your rock all reasons
and my hands are ready
to work any sadness, any height.
All because you breathed your name
into my mouth and a heart began
to move.
