Author's Statement
This book is a collection of previously published "Ask The Pharmacist" newspaper columns. It contains useful and easy to understand answers to readers’’ questions about medications and is written by one of America’’s most trusted healthcare professionals, the pharmacist. In his book, Dr. Hoffmann provides timely answers to commonly asked questions about a wide variety of medication and health-related topics. This information is needed now more than ever before with rapidly growing advances in drug research and medical technology, along with the explosion of direct to consumer advertising. Add to this the faster approval of new drugs by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and numerous switches from prescription to over-the-counter medication availability and the complexity of drug use increases. Approximately 70% of consumers now say that currently available healthcare information is overwhelming and confusing to them. This confusion is only part of the overall problem of medication use in America where adverse effects from drugs are now a leading cause of death. "Ask The Pharmacist" helps to sort out much of this confusion and provides the information needed to assist consumers in making correct decisions about their medication needs. It is an invaluable resource for anyone with drug and health related questions.
