About the book
The poem, "What America Is" was written in 1984 for a contest
sponsored by the Vienna Junior Woman's Club. Additional information about
our American heritage is included in the book as a learning tool for
children ages five to 101.
Excerpt:
It's a query quite worthy of such a young lad:
"Just what is America Dad"?
In his father's heart the reply is plain
yet putting in words is hard to explain.
Dad ponders the asking of this child of his,
says," This my son is what America is."
About the Author
Neil Joiner is a native of rural Georgia. He was raised in Dooly County
and spent most of his career there as President of a local bank. With 35
years experience he continues to believe that George Bailey offers the
best example for how banking should be conducted. He and his wife, Jane,
have 3 children, Erin, Seth, and Carrie who were born a few minutes apart
in 1978. They were five years old when the poem,"What America
Is", was written. They provided the inspiration to take what was in
his heart and translate it to the written word.
